Punjab Government has decided to evacuate the panchayat land which include pavements and roads from the alleged illegal possession of Lovely Professional University(LPU) owned by AAP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Mittal .
This was disclosed by Punjab Rural Development , Panchayat and Agriculture Minister Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal while talking to media persons at village Fatehwal falling in the Mand area of Sultanpurlodhi on Monday evening.
Dhaliwal after inaugurating the iron bridge over holy Bein told media persons that there are 90 institutions including LPU in the state which are illegally occupying panchayat land valuing rupees several hundred crore and the state government has decided to vacate it .He said that government has so far evacuated ten thousand acres of panchayat land out of one lakh thirty thousand acres identified in panchayat , forest and canal departments under the illegal possession of occupants. He appealed the encroachers to vacate it and government is even ready to sell it to small encroachers except big ones at collectors rate to the illegal occupants in the interest of the state.
Renowned Environmentalist AAP Rajya Sabha member Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal reiterated his offer to vacate 23 acres of panchayat land on which he is running cow shed (Gaushala) for the stray animals in the presence of media persons to the Minister .The Minister appreciated the bold stand taken by Baba Seechewal for this offer and told reporters that it is very difficult for the state government to run the gaushals effectively and the government could extend financial support only to the NGO’s which are dedicated to run such institutions.
He said he has specially visited village Fatehwal to inspect the Gaushala where more than 300 stray animals are living and government would decide soon either to take control of Gaushala or left its management to Baba Seechewal.
Replying to another question regarding several crore scam on giving awards of compensation to the farmers whose land had been acquired by National Highway Authority for the construction of super express highway connecting Katra to Delhi,the Minister said government has deputed the commissioner to look into the several complaints of the farmers regarding cheatings.
