District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal has issued strict instructions to polling staff to ensure their presence at election training sessions scheduled for May 5, 2024, to facilitate them to perform their duty effectively for parliamentary constituency Jalandhar (SC).
Dr. Aggarwal warned of legal consequences, including FIRs under section 134 of the Representative of People Act, and departmental actions against absentee staff. Stressing zero tolerance for absenteeism, the DEO urged poll staff to fulfill their duties diligently, citing it as a national service vital for bolstering democracy.
He mentioned that the district administration has organized training sessions for the entire 10,699 polling staff across various assembly constituencies.
He added that during the training the polling staff will be apprised about the entire election procedure besides hands-on training on EVM and VVPATs. He asserted that this training plays a crucial role in gaining polling staff's knowledge besides instilling a sense of confidence among them.
The training venues include Government Girls Senior Secondary School Phillaur for Phillaur Constituency, Guru Nanak National College Nakodar for Nakodar, Government College Shahkot for Shahkot, Lyallpur Khalsa College Women Cantt Road for Kartarpur, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Government Co-Education College Buta Mandi for Jalandhar West, ApeeJay Institute of Management and Engineering RamaMandi for Jalandhar Central, DAVIET for Jalandhar North, GNDU College Ladowali Road for Jalandhar Cantt, and KMV Sanskriti School Tanda Road Jalandhar for Adampur Assembly segment.
