Gurdit Singh Sekhon,AAP legislator from Faridkot has raised a serious issue in Vidhan Sabha demanding more E-POS machines, required to distribute rations to the blue card holders and other poor sections of society.

Faridkot assembly segment has around 130 ration shops but there are only 8 E-POS machines available.

The constituency has about 65 villages in it besides the main town which has its population around 1.5 lakh.

“The eligible beneficiaries of the subsidised and free ration have to face a lot of problems waiting for many days. The government supplies the ration in time but due to the shortage of the E-POS machines, they have to wait for many days. There are only 8 machines in my Halqa, out of which 4 are provided for the town and other four for the villages,” said Gurdit Singh Sekhon.

These are not enough to serve the huge number of beneficiaries, he said.

He said that the company which holds the contract of the state for providing machines is paid for per quintal.

“I had raised this issue in the assembly during the budget session and  the food and civil supplies minsiter assured me that there would be a machine fixed at each ration depot and tendering process has been initiated. The problem exists in the whole state and will be solved soon,” said Sekhon.
