The Cybercrime police station of Jalandhar (rural) police has booked a NRI gangster on the charges of extortion and criminal intimidation.
The investigating officer (IO) Nirmal Singh said that the accused has been identified Parmindar Singh son of Harcharan Singh a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar Hoshiar Pur and presently living in Edmonton Canada.
The victim a resident of a Nakodar village had complained to the police that the accused made WhatsApp calls to him and demanded Rs 50 lakhs as ransom and threatened him with dire consequences if demanded money is not paid to him in time.
IO said that a case under sections 308(4) (Putting or attempting to put a person in fear of death or grievous hurt to commit extortion) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.
