Addressing the gathering, she said the new law had virtually killed MGNREGA. “Hunger had reduced, migration had declined and new roads, canals and dams were created because of MGNREGA.
It had become a protective net for the poor during Covid and other economic crises. Employment is nolonger a guaranteed right under the new law. MGNREGA was a decentralised scheme, but now everything will be decided by BJP leaders sitting in Delhi. We fear that many panchayats will receive zero funding,” she said.
Nakodar MLA said, “The AAP will not stop till the new law is rolled back. Its fate will be akin to the three black agriculture laws which were finally withdrawn by the Modi government.”
