The total purchase of paddy by the state government and private agencies from farmers crossed 15,08298 lakh quintals on Monday, more than last year’s purchase of 13,39948 lakh quintals on this day in grain markets under the jurisdiction of the Shahkot market committee. Committee secretary Tejindar Kumar said the government agencies are aiming at purchasing close to 16 lakh quintals of paddy with expectations of bumper paddy crop.
He said that 84.17 percent of purchased paddy have been lifted and farmers have been paid till October 28.
