The Bilga police have booked Mowai village seed-selling firm on the charges of cheating.
The investigating officer (IO) Gurnam Singh said that the accused firm has been identified as Gaurashi Traders Adda Mowai .
Chief Agricultural Officer CAO) Jalandhar complained to Jalandhar (rural) senior superintendent of police that he has received complaints from some farmers that they have purchased PR-126 variety seed of paddy, but it was not the seed of PR-variety 126.
CAO said in his complaint that he formed an investigating team based on farmers complaints. The investigating team said in its report that the paddy variety of seed sold by the firm was not PR-126 which has been testified.
Chief Agricultural Officer said in his complaint that the license of the firm has been canceled based on the report by investigating committee.
He said that firm has cheated farmers by selling the wrong variety of paddy seed and action should be taken against its proprietors.
SSP sought an opinion from the district attorney(legal) on the report of investigating team who said it is a case of cheating and SSP ordered the Bilga Station House Officer to register a case and investigate further.
IO said that a case under section 420(cheating) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused firm.
