Punjab Procured 82 Lakh MT Paddy across the state Mandis, says Food Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak

  • About 10000 CR Paid to the Farmers for the Paddy Purchased So far

  • Visits Nawanshahr and Banga Mandis to review procurement operations


Nawanshahar/Banga: Punjab Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister, Lal Chand Kataruchak said that Punjab Mandis have witnessed a total arrival of as many as 84 Lakh MT of paddy ,out of which 82 Lakh MT have been purchased so far.

During his visit to review the procurement operations in Nawanshahar and Banga Mandis, he said that as per the commitment of Bhagwant Mann Government, the farmers have faced no problem during the ongoing procurement season. Even during the festivity, nobody has to stay in Mandis to sell his crop as the produce has been procured within four hours of its arrival to the  Mandis.

The Food Minister said that the season is so smooth and hassle free  that lifting and payment were being made promptly and simultaneously.

So far, a total of 10000 Crore have been transferred to the accounts of the farmers and  lifting of 63 MT paddy has been completed.

He said that as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, he had  personally been visiting the state Mandis to take stock of the procurement and to check whether it is really smooth at the ground level or not. The procurement agencies have been directed from the day one to purchase the crop without causing any hitch to the farmers and every stakeholder associated with the procurement, be it Labourers, Arhtiyas or Millers.

Making an appeal to the farmers to bring clean and dry produce to the Mandis for early purchase, he said that it will further reduce any delay, if there is any.

Interacting with the media persons, he said that the Bhagwant Mann led Government of Punjab is delivering it's all poll promises/guarantees one by one. Giving instances of Six Hundred Units Free Power, implementation of the Old Pension Scheme and many other historic decisions, the Food Minister said that we are here to serve the people and will not let the people down of the Punjab who have a lot of expectations from us.

He also interacted with the farmers, Arhtiyas, Labourers and Millers and asked them if they had any problem.

The Minister was also apprised of the arrival and purchase in the SBS Nagar Mandis by the DC Randhawa. He said that a total of 192554 MT of paddy have been procured against the target of 3,81000 MT, so far. Out of which 149820 MT have been lifted and a payment of Rs 347 have been transferred to the accounts of the farmers.

Among the district officers who were present there included DC NPS Randhawa, SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena, SDM Nawanshahr Major Shiv Raj Bal, SDM Poonam Preet Kaur, DSP Nawanshahr Ranjit Singh badesha, DSP Banga Sarvan Singh Bal,  Deputy Director Field Harjeet Kaur, DFSC Renu Bala Verma and AAP leaders from Banga and Nawanshahar, Kuljeet Singh Sarhal and Lalit Mohan Pathak.
