Sant Seechwal starts kar sewa to clean holy rivulet choked with hyacinth to save country’s important  kanjli wet land  and its  aquatic life

Kapurthala; Renowned Environmentalist Padamshree  Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal a Rajya Sabha member  today started kar sewa of cleanliness of Kanjali wet land on seeing the  pathetic condition  of the holy rivulet choked with hyacinth and under water vegetation endangering the aquatic life .

Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal , Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anupam Kaler , prominent industrialists , media persons , local political leaders and saints of Kapurthala and Sultanpurlodhi besides residents of kapurthala joined hands with Seechewal in this noble cause to save the aquatic lives mostly fishes which are dying due to asphyxia from  five to six feet high hyacinth and under water vegetation which covered about 15 kilometre long  entire stretch of the rivulet    as foul odour is emanating    at kanjali picnic spot near the city.

Sant Seechewal  and his followers started removing hyacinth with the help of JCV machine and Seechewal himself drove the machine and removed hyacinth from the choked rivulet.

It is pertinent to mention here that kanjli wet land which is one of the important wet land of the country is the  famous destination of Siberian  migratory birds which flew more than five thousand kilometre to visit this wet  land every year in search of food.

Seechewal who has already been credited with cleaning of 160 kilometre long holy rivulet manually with the people participation  about 20 years ago and former  President of India late Dr Abdul Kalam had lauded the efforts of Seechewal for cleaning the bein manually and visited Sultanpurlodhi to see its cleanliness in 2004.

Sant Seechewal told media persons that  four villages of Hoshiarpur district and two villages of kapurthala areas were only left whose dirty water was still flowing in the rivulet and the work to stop the dirty was going on and expected to be completed soon.

It is worth mentioning here that  160 kilometre long holy bein which passes through kanjli wet land is attached to the early life Guru Nanak Dev ji who used to take daily bathe in the rivulet during his 14 years stay at Sultanpurldhi .

Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal told media persons that administration would extend all cooperation  to  Sant Seechewal  in this drive to clean the kanjli  wet land .

Seechewal appealed residents to participate in the kar seva to clean the rivulet and Chhotti bein which passes through the city to raise the water level of the city.

Prominent among those who participated in the kar sewa include AAP  local leaders Gurpal Singh, Kanwar Iqbal Singh and  Parwinder Singh Dhot and prominent local industrialists  Suresh Jain, Rajiv Gupta and Tarlochan Singh Dhinjan and social activist Yagya Dutt Airi.
