A Jalandhar resident arrested by Bilga police for extortion is a councilor and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
As per the information available Davindar Singh son of Harjindar Singh a resident of house no B-3204/11 Jain colony, Pani Wala Tank, Mohalla Karar Khan Jalandhar was elected a member of Jalandhar municipal corporation from ward no 66 as an independent candidate and has recently joined AAP.
Junior Engineer cum mining inspector Bist Doab division Jalandhar Hardip Kumar has complained to the police that the accused along with his two accomplices were traveling in a Bolero (PB-08 DX-3330) and were forcibly collecting money from people by issuing them fake slips for carrying sand in tractor trollies
The Bilga police have registered a case under section 384(extortion) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused and two others.
Political commentators said this is not an isolated case and the accused might be acting at the behest of powerful AAP leaders and inquiry should be handed over to the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for further investigation.
