Power rates to be hiked in Punjab after govt approves PSPCL decision, different rates can be applied on domestic and industry

CHANDIGARH: After providing 300 units of free electricity per month to domestic electricity consumers in Punjab, PSPCL has decided to increase the electricity rates. Domestic electricity will be costlier by 12 paise per kWh and industrial electricity by 13 paise. It has been decided to increase the fee by 12-13 paise per unit across the state. Powercom had sent the file to the Punjab government to recover the cost, which has been approved by the government.

Sources said that a circular will be issued soon to implement the hike in rates with immediate effect. Different rates are being applied to domestic and industry. It will be increased by 12 paise per kWh for domestic consumer and 13 paise per kWh for industrial. Powercom had bought expensive power and coal for uninterrupted supply during the summer season. This has increased the financial burden on Powercom.
