CHANDIGARH: Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Sardar Kultar Singh Sandhwan, has referred the question of breach of privilege given notice of by me as MLA of Quadian constituency and Leader of Opposition, on 5th of May, 2022, to the Committee of Privileges to conduct an inquiry into the wilful absence of officers of the Rural Development & Panchayats Department in the meeting scheduled by him for coordinating the ongoing development works in my constituency on 4th May, 2022 (Wednesday) at 11.00 AM at the Office of the Block Development & Panchayat Officer, Dhariwal, District Gurdaspur.
As per the communication received from the Secretary, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Committee would interact with the undersigned on 18th October, 2022 at 2.45 PM in the Committee Room of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
The notice of breach of Privilege was given about five months back. The Hon’ble Speaker tried at his level to get an explanation from the Departments concerned. However, on pointing out repeatedly by me about the indifference of the Executive towards its accountability to the Legislature, the Hon’ble Speaker has been convinced at last that this issue merits consideration by the Committee of the House. This would surely help in maintaining the dignity of the House and make the working of the democratic institution more vibrant and responsive to the aspirations of the people.
