The Shahkot police have booked a villager on the charge of raping a woman.
The investigating officer (IO) and in-charge Shahkot Woman’s cell Amandeep Kaur said that the accused has been identified as Harmesh alias Mesha son of Guljar Singh a resident of Dhando Wal village.
The victim complained to Jalandhar (rural) senior superintendent of police that the accused promised to marry her and adopt her son and physically exploited her.
IO said that a case under section 376(rape) and 411(dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and raids are being conducted to nab him .
