NawanshahrMD Markfed, Rambir, said here today that a total of 1731 MT of paddy  produce has been purchased till last evening in the district Mandis. He was reviewing procurement operations in the district.


DFSC Renu Bala Verma, said that district had a targeted arrival of 3.81 lakh MT of paddy, same as in previous year.
Apart from that, 44 out of total 49 rice mills have been allocated for milling. Similarly, the district has got 88 percent of the requisite bales of bardana and the rest of the stock would be received shortly.

MD Markfed added that as the state government has launched an online gateway pass system for the delivery of the procured grain to the respective destinations so it would be better to upload details of each and every vehicle on the portal who would be given transportation assignment, to ensure transparency.

To curb bogus billing or illegal re-cycling of the paddy brought from the other states, the flying squads formed to check the district entries and Mandis, would be put on job strictly, directed the MD Rambir to the administration.

At Dana Mandi Nawanshahr, he got the moisture content of some heaps checked randomly and asked the market committee authorities to be vigilant to check whether the produce falls in specifications or not. He said to ensure smooth procurement, it would be necessary to allow the dry produce only in the Mandis. He said that the farmers would be sensitised of the strict specifications laid by the Government of India and FCI so that no glut like situation arose in the Mandis.

Stating that Punjab Government is Committed to Ensure Smooth and Uninterrupted Paddy procurement, he said that administrative officers have been deputed to oversee the procurement operations so that farmers do not face any problem to sell their produce in the state Mandis.

Earlier, he took a review meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa and district heads of procurement agencies. He expressed satisfaction over the procurement and directed the procurement agencies to focus on the purchase of paddy as per specifications laid by FCI and Government of India.

He was apprised of the arrangements done in the district for the smooth procurement of paddy by the deputy commissioner NPS Randhawa.
