Ludhiana: Taking another step to ensure rehabilitation, strengthen the matrimonial bonds of prisoners and eliminating the negative impact of imprisonment, Ludhiana central jail on Monday started facility of conjugal visit for the inmates, allowing them an opportunity to spend an hour with their spouses in a separate designated room.
Divulging further details, Jail Superintendent Shivraj Singh Nandgarh said that the facility would be offered to only those prisoners who would exhibit good conduct in the jail and would follow all rules during stay. He said that conjugal visit would be offered to such inmates to spend one hour with their life-partners once in three months. He added that today, four inmates availed the facility in the jail. He said that hardcore criminals, gangsters, high risk prisoners and inmates involved in sexual related offences, dowry cases, will not be allowed to avail this facility.
Singh said that for the jail inmates, they have to fill form with jail authorities following which a verification is being carried out and later when application gets green signal, the conjugal visit is being arranged. Proper medical examination including HIV and other required tests are being conducted by jail medical staff.
The Jail superintendent said that the purpose of this facility was to bring the prisoners in mainstream as family has a vital role to improve their conduct and mental-wellbeing.
