- Pays tribute to father of nation on his birth anniversary
Phagwara: On the occassion of birth anniversary of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi ji, the MC Commissioner Phagwara Dr Nayan Jassal today gave clarion call to employees of Civic body to make all out efforts for making city clean, green and pollution free.
Addressing the employees, she asked the employees to discharge their duties with utmost dedication and professional commitment to benefit the people. Exhorting the people to follow the philosophy of peace and non-violence as propounded by Gandhi ji, she said that it is need of our to carve out an egalitarian society. She further said Mahatma Gandhi ji was possibly the only global leader who won the battle of freedom through his ideology of non-violence.
She said that Gandhi ji was a great statesman and an iconic personality who widely travelled across the world to propagate his philosophy of love, peace and non-violence. She said that several world leaders, philosophers and other dignitaries have been an admirer and follower of Gandhi’s ideology. She said that we all must ensure that the benefits of all the schemes of socio-economic development reach the poorest of the poor as a befitting tribute to the Gandhi ji.
She further said that with the launch of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' (Clean India Mission) on October 2, 2014, India had began its journey towards making cleanliness a part of daily life. Commissioner paid floral tributes to father of nation land launched T-shirts, cups, caps with the logo of swachh bharat and distributed among staff present. She further said that these items with message and logo of swach bharat will be distributed at future MC events to public will be used to spread awareness and information about the campaign to keep phagwara clean and green.
