Punjab: Mobile safety van deploys, 278 sample fails out of 676 milk sample amid festival season

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Chetan Singh Joudamajra said on Sunday that special attention is being paid by the Food Security Wing to the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann government under the Zero Tolerance Policy against the sale of substandard food items.

 

In view the festive season, the Food Safety Department is keeping a close watch on the vendors selling food items so that no wrong or inedible items reach the public and the health of the people can be ensured.

The Health Minister said that keeping this in mind, different teams have been formed by the Food Security Department, so that they can go to other districts to investigate the vendors selling food items.

Giving more details about the multi-dimensional campaign launched by the Food Safety Wing of Food and Drug Administration, Punjab, Joudamajra said that this wing is working under the slogan of providing safe and healthy food to the people.

In such a situation, the department is running an awareness campaign to provide pure food and drink items to the people of Punjab with the intention of making them aware of any kind of adulteration.

During August 2022, a total of 1016 samples were filled by the department, out of which a total of 676 samples of milk were taken. Of these, 278 samples did not meet validation. Therefore, a total of 7 mobile food safety vans have been deployed by the Food Safety Department to check the quality of food items across Punjab.

 

The program has been launched by FSSAI under Food Safety of Wheels. These vans conduct awareness, food safety training, quality checks of food items in different districts. They have a complete food inspection system and report is provided on the spot.
