One MLA-One Pension Act challenged in High Court, Notice issued to Punjab Government

One MLA-One Pension Act challenged in High Court, Notice issued to Punjab Government

Chandigarh- The Punjab-Haryana High Court has challenged the One MLA One Pension Act. Six former MLAs have filed a petition against the Act passed by Punjab Government. This challenge has been given by Rakesh Pandey of Ludhiana and others. The High Court has sought a response from the Punjab government on this petition. This petition has been filed by former MLAs Rakesh Pandey, Sohan Singh Thandal, Mohan Lal, Gurvinder Singh Atwal, Sarwan Singh and Lal Singh.

Senior advocate and former MLA Rakesh Pandey said that we have demanded in the High Court that the One MLA One Pension Act should not apply to the old MLAs, we continued to get pension like this. This law should be applicable to new MLAs. The High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab Government in this regard. Now the Punjab government will have to answer why it has implemented this act.

However, the Punjab government had brought this act that any MLA of the state will get the same pension, no matter how many times he has been an MLA. Till now, it was a rule in the state that the number of times a public representative becomes an MLA, he will get pension for the same tenure. It is noteworthy that if someone became an MLA five times, he would get five pensions. It was closed by the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab. Now it has to be seen whether the Punjab government gives its answer in this regard.
