Eight out of 11 Congress MLAs, join BJP in Goa; Raghav Chadha claims- “Operation Lotus fails in Delhi & Punjab, succeeds in Goa, why?

PANAJI: Eight out of 11 Congress MLAs have joined the BJP in Goa. Earlier, BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tavanade had said that eight Congress MLAs are going to join the ruling party.

The Goa Congress Legislature Party on Wednesday passed a resolution to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

These MLAs also include Digambar Kamat, who has also been the Chief Minister of the state.

There are 40 members in the Goa Legislative Assembly. Before today's merger, the Congress had 11 MLAs in Goa and the BJP 20.

After passing the proposal to join the BJP, the eight MLAs met the Chief Minister of the state Pramod Sawant.

On this, Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha took a jibe at the Congress and said that when you vote for the Congress, you choose a future BJP MLA.

Congress MLAs in Goa have switched sides at a time when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is doing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.

The yatra started from Kanyakumari on September 7 and will cover 3,570 kms through 12 states and two union territories of the country and will end at Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
