Kabaddi promoter Surjan Singh Chatha  arrested in Sandeep Singh murder case

 

NAKODAR

The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a prominent Kabaddi promoter in the Sandeep Singh murder case.

The Jalandhar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mukhwindar Singh Bhullar said that the accused has been identified as Surjan Singh Chatha son of Mohan Singh a resident of Kotla Bhagu village under Nakodar Sadar city police station and presently living in Jalandhar.

As per available information Chatha in the early eighties had formed a Kabaddi Federation in England along with other associates and came back to India after some problems in England and settled in Jalandhar but continued his activities in the field.

Chatha was also involved in a controversy over changing the name of a sports stadium dedicated to an Army Hero in Aalowal village under the Nakodar city police station at the beginning of the century

SSP said that Chatha was nominated for the murder of Sandeep Singh following a complaint from the family of the deceased as the accused was involved in the conspiracy of murder adding that the accused was produced in a court on Thursday which remanded him to police custody for a day.

 

Angrej Singh son of Swaran Singh a resident of Nangal Ambian village under Shahkot police station had complained to the police that his brother Sandeep Singh prominent Kabaddi player came to Mallian Kalan village with his team to participle in a tournament on March 14.,2022.

He had said in his complaint that at around 6 P.M five unidentified car-borne armed accused discriminately fired at his brother who fell on the ground bleeding profusely and the accused again fired some gunshots at his brother who succumbed to his injuries in a clinic adding the accused opened fire while fleeing and injured two persons.

 

Nakodar Sadar station house officer Bikarm Singh said that a case under sections 302(murder) 307(attempt to murder),120-B (criminal conspiracy) 148, and 149(rioting) of the IPC and sections 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered against the accused and elevon accused were arrested earlier and some accused living abroad were nominated in this case.
