Punjab: NOC to be obtained from Army for mining within Indo-Pak border

AMRITSAR/PATHANKOT/GURDASPUR: Any kind of mining activity in the border area will now require permission of the Indian Army. The Indian Army has directed the Punjab Government to take a no objection certificate (NOC) for mining the India-Pakistan border in the future.

 

The army has issued a notification, according to which it will be necessary to first take NOC from the army for mining within a radius of 5 km of the international border. Earlier, mining has been completely banned by the army within a radius of I Km.

The decision has been taken by the Indian Army keeping in view the national security and in this regard it has also imposed some conditions on the Punjab government regarding mining. Along with this, these conditions will also be part of the new mining policy to be made by the Punjab government.

According to the letter issued, it will be mandatory to first obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' from the Army within a radius of 5 km of the border and 5 km of military installations. Along with this, the Indian Army has also not approved crusher sites in this radius. The Army has identified 16 crusher sites within this range, but only 6 have been deemed eligible for clearance, which fall in the districts of Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Amritsar.

As per the letter dated 19, from the Western Command, any mining activity within the area bound by the international boundary between India and Pakistan in Punjab (BP-1 to BP-274) on the western side and up to a septh of the line of defence works of the Army and 500 metres beyond on the eastern side should not be permitted.

 

However, the petition filed in the High Court regarding mining was heard yesterday, in which the possibility of damage to the army bunkers due to mining was expressed by the Indian Army. A petition was also filed by the Indian Army in the matter of mining. First Affidavit. It has been stated and stated that these mining activities may pose a threat to national security. On the other hand, it has also been learned that the Punjab government is also ready to obey the army in view of security.
