Amritsar: Vigilance arrests ASI for taking bribe of Rs 4,000

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has caught red-handed Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Narinder Singh (831/) posted at PSPCL Anti Power Theft Police Station Verka, Amritsar Rural during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state. Taking a bribe of Rs 4,0000.

Giving information in this regard, a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the accused ASI has been arrested on the complaint of Navi Abadi Verka, resident of Tarlochan Singh. Giving details, he said that the complainant had approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the above police officers were the investigating officers in the electricity theft case registered against him. The complainant said that the said ASI was demanding a bribe of four thousand rupees to produce the investigation report in the court.

 

The spokesperson further said that after confirmation of the complaint, a vigilance team of Amritsar unit laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. Further action is being taken by registering a case against the accused ASI under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the presence of two government witnesses at Amritsar police station of Vigilance Bureau.
