  • Relining of Sirhind and Rajasthan Feeder will sniff the life of greenery and leave the town thirsty-The environmentals say.
  • The relining is being done by concrete layer and poly sheets.

Faridkot: Kultar Singh Sandhwan, the speaker Punjab assembly on Friday conveyed the concerns of the Faridkot based enviornalists to the chief minister Punajb Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The Society for Ecology and Environment Resources (SEER) and Jal Jeevan Bachao Morcha have raised concerns over the relining of the Rajastahn and Sirhind canal by concerte and poly sheets in the Faridkot area.
THe work on the relining of the both canals is going on to stop the problem of seepage which has rendered a very large area of Muktsar district waterlogged and useless.
"As there are thousands of the trees standing along the either sides of the canals, if the seepage of the canals totally stops, they will go dry. Besides that, we have also planted thousands of new saplings over the years. The subsoil drinking water of the Faridkot town is also not good, so most of the people drink the water of the hand pumps installed along the canals. If there is no seepage of canal water, it will badly affect the availability of sub soil water, its table and lead to the dryness of the plantation and trees. We demand that at least a stretch of the canals passing by the Faridkot town should be left in old condition. Faridkot has no waterlogging in the town as well," said Sandeep Arora from SEER.
Kultar Singh Sandhwan has convened the chief minister  of the demands of the locals to the chief minister and requested him to consider their demands seriously.
