Phagwara MC Commissioner for massive awareness campaign on segregation of waste

Phagwara: Joining hands with the Municipal Corporation Phagwara, the NGO Inner wheel All women club today organised an event to create awareness amongst masses towards waste segregation.

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Nayan Jassal who presided over the event, said that the need of hour is to sensitize people regarding the protection and preservation of environment under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. She also apprised people about about the disposal of waste, its segregation at source level, harmful effects of using plastic bags and others. She said that segregation of waste at the source is key for improved collection efficiency, processing of waste, and resource recovery.

She further mentioned that half the battle is won when segregation of waste is done at the source leading to improved quality of segregation, thereby improving the efficiency of waste management. She also said that with rapidly changing urban landscapes, ecosystems, population migrations and ever-increasing households and establishments, it is essential that behavior change is reinforced from time to time among citizens. She added that the objective of the campaign is to reinforce correct waste segregation practices among the different sections of society and improve the quality of segregated waste collection and processing.

Batting for mass awareness campaign amongst the people to make them aware of solid waste management, the Commissioner said that all the stakeholders must be made aware of the benefits of the source segregation for proper disposal of the waste. She exhorted the people to ensure source segregation at their homes so that Phagwara could be made clean, green and pollution free. She said that the MC will continue to support all such endeavours to make Phagwara clean.

Meanwhile president of NGO saroj pabbi, secy vimmy sharma, sumita prashar, kesh lata ji past dist chairman, editor dr seema rajan, bharti rao, navita, manisha, anita, swati and other members welcomed the Commissioner.I
