Ex-minister Sunder Sham Arora wept with his family after arrested for offering Rs 50 lakh bribe

CHANDIGARH: The Vigilance Bureau has arrested former Industries Minister Sunder Sham Arora for allegedly offering a Rs 50 lakh bribe to Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Manmohan Sharma in connection to a vigilance enquity against him. This has been disclosed by Vigilance Bureau chief Varinder Kumar. A case has been registered against the former minister at Vigilance Police Station Mohali. Arora left the Congress and joined the BJP.

 

During this the former minister was produced in the court. Meanwhile, he got emotional after meeting the family. He has full faith in the law. I am completely innocent.

The Vigilance Bureau Punjab arrested former minister Sunder Sham Arora late last night when he was offering a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the bureau.

Giving information to the media in this regard, Chief Director of Vigilance Bureau Punjab Varinder Kumar said that a case has been registered against AIG of Vigilance Bureau against the former minister in this regard. Flying Squad, Punjab has been arrested by registering FIR No. 19 dated 15-10-2022 under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on the statements of Manmohan Kumar.

He further said that AIG Manmohan Kumar has complained to the bureau that Arora met him on October 14, 2022 and offered Rs 1 crore to help in the ongoing vigilance probe against him.

The Vigilance Bureau chief further said that the former minister has promised to pay Rs 50 lakh on the spot the next day on October 15, 2022 and pay the remaining amount later. He said that the AIG informed the Chief Director, who ordered registration of a bribery case against the accused minister.

 

In this case, Arora was arrested while giving bribe and Rs 50 lakh was recovered from him. Further investigation in this matter is on.
