Gurmeet Ram Rahim gets parole for 40 days, reached Dera Sacha Sauda Ashram

CHANDIGARH: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has once again gets parole for 40 days.

 

Ram Rahim, who is serving a sentence in rape and murder cases, reached the ashram of Dera Sacha Sauda in Barnawa, after being released from jail. Ram Rahim reached the ashram amidst tight security.

Ram Rahim's family had written an application to the jail administration seeking his parole for one month. He was given a month's parole on June 17.

Ram Rahim is serving his sentence in Haryana's Sunaria jail since 2017. He has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping two women at an ashram in Sirsa, Haryana.

Earlier Gurmeet Ram Rahim was out on parole thrice in 2021 and twice in 2022. He was out on parole for 21 days in February and a month in June. Ram Rahim was brought to Sunaria jail after his parole period expired on February 28. According to jail officials, he can seek parole for at least 40 days before December 31, 2022.

In parole, a prisoner is released from prison for some time because of some special act or because of good conduct before the completion of the sentence. In furlough, the prisoner is temporarily released from prison and has a short time frame.

On the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the CBI started investigation in the case in 2003. An FIR in this case was registered in Kurukshetra district of Haryana.
