Punjab Governor approves to call Assemblt session on September 27

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit has approved the Punjab Assembly session to be held on September 27.

Earlier, the Punjab government had replied to a letter sent by the Governor seeking details of the proposed complaint. In its reply, the government said that during the session many issues like GST, straw and electricity will be discussed.

Governor says in a statement that “in exercise of powers conferred upon him by virtue of Clause (1) of Article 174 of Constitution of India, he is summoning the session on September 27 at 11 am”. With this, the cloud over the holding of the session ends. The ruling party AAP chose Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan to make the announcement, although his announcement about the session being convened was quite toned down as compared to the high pitch of the AAP protest against the Governor Purohit in the past four days.

Earlier the Governor had refused to approve the special session of 22. After this the politics of Punjab caught fire. AAP had announced to call the meeting again on September 27.

Punjab minister Aman Arora termed it unfortunate and condemnable. He accused the governor of working at the behest of the BJP to implement 'Operation Lotus' in Punjab. The Minister of New and Renewable Energy Resources said that in the last 75 years, no President or Governor has ever asked for a list of legislative business before convening the session.

He said this was happening for the first time as the Punjab Governor was clearly working with the BJP and the Congress to undermine the democratic system and prevent the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government from working for the welfare of the common people.
