The election of the president of the Ahartia Association Kotkapura was held on Monday and Ashok Kumar Goel,69, was unanimously elected as president of the association for the next two years.
He took over from Krishan Kumar Goyal.
There are about 200 hundred commission agents in grain grain market committee Kotkapura, which is one of the leading grain markets of the Punjab.
Goel has been general secretary of the association for about 15 years.
He was elected the president of the association unanimously in presence of the younger brother of Kotkapura MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan, the Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, advocate BirInder Singh Sandhwan.
“I shall make my best efforts to make all round development in the grain market Kotkapura and strive to work as a coordinator between the farmers, commission agents, labour and administration besides the government. Even if some of the farmers do have some grievances against the commission agents, I shall try my best to get those resolved amicably,” said Goel.
He said that earlier, no such grievances surfaced up, but during the past two years, some of such grievances did come up.
“I shall put in my best to help improve the whole system as a president and even if some of the farmers do have some complaint against the commission agents, he may approach our association and we shall try to solve it amicably,” said Goel.
Goel thanked Kultar Singh Sandhwan for him being elected as the president of the Ahartia Association Kotkapura.
“The Speaker had to be present on the occasion, but as he had to rush to Chandigarh, his younger brother Bir Inder Singh was present,” Goel said.
Goel, as a general secretary of the association, has been raising the issues concerned to the market committee Kotkapura uprightly and sincerely for many years.
The election of the president of the ahartia association is held after every two years and it is unanimously always.
The insiders say that the political party line is followed to have the smooth functioning of the market.
