Murder of Sudir Suri: local politicians want to maintain communal and hard earned peace in Punjab, people fear polarization of local communities

  • Such kinds of incidents  may lead to conflict and polarize the local population of the state.
  • The murder of the extremely right winged leader Sudhir Suri and rise of hardcore Sikh preacher Bhai Amritpal Singh may lead to the communal divide in the state.
  • The issue of conversions of Sikhs to the Christianity is also a sour point.

Faridkot: As Punjab has of late sharply seen rise of Bhai Amritpal Singh,a hardcore preacher, who heads the “Waris Punjab De” now, after the death of Deep Sidhu and some conflict allegedly between the Sikh and christens over alleged conversions, the murder of Sudhir Suri, a right wing activist, who allegedly use derogatory language against the hardcore is feared to disturb the communal peace in the state, though invisibly.

These incidents may polarize the local population of the state out of insecurity and fear towards each other and social fabrics may be disturbed.

But politicians of the district have the same opinion, to maintain the communal harmony.

“Whatever circumstances are there , are very bad. It should not have happened. I appeal to the all sections of society to ensure peace at every cost. But the government must ensure that anybody violating law should not be spared. The guilty should be punished and as the national president of Mahavira Sena, I condemn the incident happened in Amritsar today. But I reiterate that we must maintain a communal harmony,” said Gaurav Kakkar, BJP Halqa in charge  Faridkot.

“Punjab has lost about 15 years in the past of its precious time and lost a lot of human lives besides economic resources. Those were the sad days in the history of Punjab and people had to pay a very high price to bring in the peace to the state after years of darkness. We can not afford to loose peace now and whatever is happening in the state, is very disturbing,’ said Darshan Singh Dhilwan, who had unsuccessfully contested from Jaitu constituency of the district on as a congress nominee.
