70 lakh extortion case cracked,two army men arrested

Faridkot police have claimed to have cracked a case of extortion in which some unknown person had allegedly issued threats to Pawan Mittal, a resident of Kotkapura town of the district over phone.

The caller had allegedly demanded Rs 70 lakh from the Kotkapura businessman.

“A case on the complaint of Pawan Mittal had been registered on August 26 at city police station Kotkapura against some unknown persons.During the investigation, some clues led to the arrest of one accused,Gurcharan Singha alias Lakha of village Hari Naon who was serving in the army. The police arrested him on August 30 and during his interrogation, the accused also confessed to the involvement of another person.The second accused Bilal Ahmad was arrested on August 31. Both are currently serving in the army and are from the same village Hari Naon,” said Jasmeet Singh, SP investigation in a press note to the media.

“Bilal Ahmad told the police that they had threatened the complainant on the asking of Dilpreet Singh, who is now living in Canada and was also a student of the private school owned by Pawan Mittal. The police are further investigating the case and checking the forward and backward links of the accused,” the SP said.
