Preimplantation Genetic testing is a laboratory procedure used in IVF to lower the risk of passing on inherited diseases. Before implantation, embryos are genetically examined to look any genetic abnormalities in the embryo/s. Since the method greatly increases the likelihood that the baby will be free of the disease under consideration when used to screen for a particular genetic disease, its main benefit is that it prevents selective abortion and miscarriage. There are three different varieties of PGT namely-PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR.
Dr. Jasmine Kaur Dahiya , a Fertility Consultant from Nova IVF Fertility, Jalandhar who treated the couple said, ‘’ Mr and Mrs Prabhjyot Singh have been trying to conceive naturally since 2018 came to see me for the first time in March 2021 at NOVA IVF, JALANDHAR. They have been married for four years and , tried to have a baby ever since they got married. When she came to us, Mrs. Prabhjyot was using contraception and had four miscarriage She feared getting pregnant and was extremely afraid of having another miscarriage. The couple had given up all hope and took a year-long break from therapy. The doctors they consulted conducted all of her investigations twice, but no cause was discovered. They visited numerous doctors in India and Canada, but none of the treatments they recommended worked for her. When we conducted the investigation, surprisingly, the couple's entire genetic analysis came back normal, and no cause was identified. It was decided to use PGT-A in IVF to treat recurrent pregnancy loss. The couple began their IVF cycle. About 16 eggs were retrieved and 4 embryos were formed for PGT-A. When we did the testing, we found two abnormal embryos and two were healthy. We did an embryo transfer with the healthy embryo. After few weeks, her pregnancy test came positive”
