Farmers engaged in stubble burning will be devoid of benefit of welfare schemes: DC

  • Also to be ineligible for arms licences and Passport verification
  • Asks nodal officers and cluster officers to play an active role to stop stubble burning 


Kapurthala: In a strict decision to stop the stubble burning in the district , Deputy commissioner kapurthala Vishesh sarangal today made it clear that the people responsible for stubble burning would not be able to avail benefit for any governments welfare schemes.  Besides that they would be also be deprived from Passport verification and arms licence. 

Sarangal said that the district have 1.18 lakh acre area under paddy which would produce 7 lakh ton residue of paddy . To manage this stubble, the Punjab government have provide 4100 machines to farmers/Panchayats  and Coopeative societies besides clearing 651 machines during current season, he added. 

He said that the stubble burning not only cause air pollution but it is also very harmful for the soil health . Deputy commissioner also ordered the 208 nodal officers and 39 cluster officers to remain alert and keep an hawk eye on the fire incidents besides ensuring submittion of written report within in 24 hours of the fire incident after visiting the site. 

It may be mentioned here that few days ago Deputy commissioner has issued show cause notice to 2 senior officials for submitting wrong report on stubble burning . 

He also asked the officials to pay special attention towards the 157 spots which were identified as Hot spots for stubble burning as 75% stubble burning incidents were reported in these villages during last season.
