NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the 5G service and the sixth edition of Mobile Congress 2022 from Pragati Maidan in Delhi.
With the launching 5G in India, PM Modi said, “Earlier, cost of 1GB data was about ₹300, it has come down to about ₹10 per GB now. On average, a person in India consumes 14GB per month. This would have cost about ₹4200 per month but costs ₹125-150. It's the efforts of govt that led to this."
Technology has become democratic in its truest sense: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while launching 5G services in India said that technology has become democratic in its truest sense.
“I've seen even the poor of the country always come forward to adopt new technologies... Technology has become democratic in its truest sense," PM Modi said.
From today 5G service will be available in eight cities of the country. These include the names of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Varanasi. On the occasion of 5G launch, the owners of Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea, all three companies gave their opinion.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said on this occasion that 5G is like digital Kamdhenu.
He said, "With the advent of 5G, things like artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, metaverse will revolutionize things. This will modernize all sectors of the Indian economy."
Ambani said that India may have started late but 5G services will expand very fast across the country.
Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Enterprises said that the advent of 5G will open new opportunities for the citizens of the country and will help in connecting rural India with technology.
Sunil Mittal said that there was a time when he had absolutely no hope that manufacturing could ever happen in this country. But Make in India made the country a manufacturing hub.
He said, "By March 2023, 5G facility will reach most of the cities of the country and by March 2024, 5G network of Airtel will be operational in eight cities including Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai and Bangalore."
Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said that with the entry into the 5G era, revolutionary changes will come in the field of modern technology.
He said, "In the coming days, we will gradually move from 4G to 5G service and 5G network will reach rural India also."
