Nawanshahr: Adding another feather to its cap, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district has been selected for 'Har Ghar Jal' Award by the Government of India.
Divulging details, deputy commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa said that district SBS Nagar had achieved the 100 percent coverage of piped water supply to the rural area.
He said that by making arrangements of water supply to rural households of 462 villages of the district, the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation had met the target in advance. The deadline for meeting the target was fixed to 2024, he added. The award would be received on behalf of the district by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Amardeep Singh Bains, he added.
He said that the Har Ghar Jal status accorded to the district under National Jal Jeevan Mission by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, is another pride for the district as in Urban area , Municipal Council Nawanshahr had also been selected for an Award under Azadi@75 Swachh Survekshan 2022 by Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Government of India. This award would be conferred by the President of India on October 1,2022.
