Army authorities fail to vacate encroached Defence land

NAKODAR

Even though government and private organizations have encroached upon hundreds of acres of Army land in Nakodar, the Army authorities have done nothing to get the land vacated.
As per records of the revenue department over 120 acres of prime land are registered in the name of the defense department.
The 2008-2009 revenue records say that the building on encroached land includes an old judicial complex (12 kanals), PWD rest house and its offices (18 Kanals), civil hospital (36 kanals) and the shop constructed by the Municipal committee (6 kanals). Besides this, a police station in13kanal, a veterinary hospital in three kanals, and many other government and private organizations have brazenly occupied defense land.

Army authorities had informed Nakodar residents in a reply under the Right to Information Act (RTI Act) that a hundred acres of Army land encroached upon by govt and private organizations at Nakodar which is not entered in the Military land register maintained by the defense estates office, (DEO) Jalandhar circle. The matter is being taken up with the revenue authorizes at Nakodar to sort out the discrepancies between official records held with the Tehsil office in Nakodar and the DEO office, Jalandhar Cantt to confirm the area of defense land which has been encroachment by the govt and private organizations.
The authorities had said that after confirming the encroachment made by the govt and private organizations from the revenue authorities, the encroachments would be dealt with separately for their removal under the provisions of the Public Premises (Eviction of unauthorized occupants) Act 1971. Inquiries at the office of  additional deputy commissioner urban development  revealed that no case under PP Act by Army has been filed.
