As a result of pro-people initiatives launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government, the year 2025 emerged as a milestone period for Jalandhar district, marked by significant achievements across infrastructure development, governance reforms, social welfare, health, education, sports and disaster management.  The Punjab Government has delivered measurable outcomes that directly impacted citizens’ lives while laying a strong foundation for sustained growth in the coming years.

 

As the district prepares to enter 2026, the administration has set clear priorities with a sharp focus on completing mega infrastructure projects and strengthening connectivity. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal briefed about Punjab Government's new initiatives in the coming year which will give impetus to the district's overall development

Healthcare delivery was further strengthened through 66 Aam Aadmi Clinics, which collectively recorded an impressive 11,29,024 OPD visits and conducted 5,49,407 laboratory tests during the year, making quality healthcare accessible at the grassroots.

In the fight against substance abuse, the district expanded its infrastructure by upgrading the Model De-Addiction-cum-Rehabilitation Centre, adding 20 new beds to take the total rehabilitation capacity to 40 beds, along with 10 de-addiction centres. The skill centre attached to the facility was also modernized with computer and electrical labs, vocational courses, a modern gym, library and conference hall, aligning with the state’s ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign. This ultra modern de-addiction centre situated at Seikhe Village was inaugurated by Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh.

In 2025, Jalandhar set an example in disaster preparedness during the flood season. On the directives of Punjab Government,  the district administration had proactively identified and reinforced vulnerable embankments well in advance. A 24×7 Action Helpline and a dedicated disaster management team were established to ensure swift response. Regular advisories and public alerts enhanced community preparedness. Despite receiving higher water inflows compared to previous years, Jalandhar reported no river breaches, reflecting effective planning 

Citizen-centric governance remained at the core of administrative priorities. During 2025, 3,75,598 applications were processed through Sewa Kendras across the district, showcasing efficiency and responsiveness in service delivery. The launch of the Action Helpline 9646222555 further strengthened grievance redressal by assisting citizens in resolving day-to-day issues promptly. Under this initiative citizens were provided with a whats app helpline number where they could report various problems with photographs and videos. This action helpline recieved overwhelming response as District Administrative had set up a dedicated control room to prompt complaints recieved on this helpline with departments concerned. As many as 473 complaints were resolved through this Action Helpline, thereby ensuring prompt redressal of citizen grievances with respect to daily civic issues. Removing garbage from vacant plots, assisting citizens during flood relief measures, shifting stray cattle from roads was part of this action helpline.

 

The district also achieved recognition at the national level when Shahkot block was adjudged the Best Aspirational Block in India (Zone-II), earning a prestigious award of Rs. 1.5 crore. This accolade underscored Jalandhar’s focused approach towards inclusive and balanced development. Similarly, the Punjab Government's flagship program namely Easy Registration was launched in 2025 which transform entire property registration process, thereby providing smooth and more transparent registration services 

 

Empowering youth remained a major thrust area. Nearly 42 placement camps were organized during the year, facilitating employment for 4,682 youths. To support academic excellence, four batches of free coaching classes benefitted 150 students, while the Chetna Project imparted life-saving skills to 3,300 students from government, private and aided schools.

In a significant boost to innovation and science education, Jalandhar won a grant of Rs. 1.34 crore from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) for establishing space labs in schools, aiming to nurture scientific temper and curiosity 

 

The commencement of direct flights from Adampur Civil Airport to Mumbai from July 2025 further strengthen regional connectivity of this industrial and NRI belt.This long-awaited connectivity boost has not only benefited residents but has also enhanced Jalandhar’s economic and business prospects by linking it directly with India’s financial capital.

Complementing this, the administration initiated the process for land acquisition to construct a 1.25-km Adampur Airport Road, aimed at providing seamless and direct connectivity to the airport. This project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve passenger convenience.

Another critical infrastructure milestone was the commencement of the PAP Flyover project, a long-pending demand of commuters. The work gained momentum in 2025 and is slated for completion next year, promising major relief from traffic congestion. Similarly, after overcoming multiple hurdles, the foundation stone for the ambitious Burlton Park Sports Hub project was laid by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and Arvind Kejriwal, marking a new chapter in strengthening Jalandhar’s identity as a sports city.

 

 

Jalandhar’s sporting culture received a major boost through the Jalandhar Premier League, which witnessed cricket matches among school teams across the district.More than 400 players from 32 teams from various government and private schools are participating in the Jalandhar Premier League.

Additionally, the CM di Yogshala initiative promoted physical fitness at the grassroots, with 201 classes, 11,024 beneficiaries, and 56 trainers actively engaged. On June 19, more than 21,000 yoga enthusiasts participated in the state-level 'CM's Yogashala' event at PAP Ground, which is a new record for the number of people attending a single yoga event in Punjab.

In another unique initiative under the Chetna project, life saving skill training was imparted to over 3300 students. Likewise, To make students aware of functioning of government departments, District administration also facilitated visits of students to various government offices in Jalandhar.

 

Urban management initiatives such as making the district stray cattle-free and the beautification of vacant plots contributed to improved aesthetics and public 

During the year, the district administration also earned appreciation from the Chief of Defence Staff for its role and coordination during the Indo-Pak conflict situation, highlighting administrative efficiency during critical times. The civil administration and army were well coordinated, the information was disseminated in a timely manner, and precautionary measures were taken to prevent any fear or panic from arising among the common people.

 

 

Looking ahead, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal outlined clear targets for 2026. The Jalandhar–Hoshiarpur Road project, will be re-tendered with re-bidding scheduled for March 2026. The Jandu Singha–Lama Pind Road is now targeted for completion by April 30, 2026.

 

The administration has set firm deadlines for major projects, including completion of the Burlton Park Sports Hub by August 15, 2026, PAP Flyover project by 31.10.2026 and the Surface Water Project by December 31, 2026, which is expected to transform urban water supply. Additionally, efforts will intensify to secure direct flights from Adampur to Delhi, further strengthening Jalandhar’s connectivity.

 

 

Summing up the year, Dr. Aggarwal reiterated that under the directions of Punjab Government, year 2025 has laid a strong foundation through governance reforms, infrastructure push and people-centric initiatives. He affirmed that 2026 would focus on timely completion of mega projects, enhanced connectivity, and continued emphasis on citizen welfare, ensuring that Jalandhar remains on a high-growth trajectory while delivering transparent, responsive, corruption free and inclusive administration.
