Speaker encourages youth to become partners in socio-economic growth

JALANDHAR.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan today urged youngsters to pursue success in their lives as a way of contributing to the state’s socio-economic growth. Addressing the gathering at Mehar Chand Polytechnic College’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, marking its 70th anniversary, he emphasized the transformative power of education beyond academic degrees. "Education teaches us to become good human beings and enables us to face life’s challenges successfully," Sandhwa noted, encouraging students to adopt "Sewa Bhawan," (service to humanity) as they progress in their careers. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, and Principal Dr. Jagroop Singh welcomed the dignitaries with bouquets on arrival.

Accompanied by MLA Raman Arora, Chairman Punjab Agri Export Corporation Limited Mangal Singh, the speaker also urged the audience to draw inspiration from figures like Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, known for his environmental conservation efforts. Outlining the Punjab Government's focus, Mr. Sandhwa highlighted strides in health and education sectors, emphasizing support for institutions dedicated to public service. He invited the college’s management to develop a blueprint to further enhance the institution, envisioning a similar celebration on its 100th anniversary. He also invited the college staff and students on a tour to Punjab Vidhan Sabha. He congratulated the DAV Management for successfully running this institute for over 70 years and giving more than 36,000 engineers to our society.

Renowned environmentalist and Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, who also spoke at the event, emphasized the importance of using technology responsibly. Citing Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teaching, “Vidya Vichari tan Paropkari” (education leads to philanthropy), he highlighted that true education fosters humility and compassion. He said that along side learning any technical skill, we must all learn to evolve as kind and good human beings. Sant Seechewal announced a Rs. 10 lakh grant from his discretionary funds to bolster technical education in the region.

The ceremony concluded with the release of a souvenir commemorating the college’s journey and achievements of last 70 years. Top-performing students, dedicated staff, and distinguished alumni were honored, while students’ performances on social themes received widespread applause.  Principal Dr. Jagroop Singh threw light on the achievement of this college to promote technical education in the state.
