The Nurmahal police have arrested a travel agent for duping a woman of Rs1.74 lakh on the pretext of sending her son abroad.
The Jalandhar (rural) Deputy Commissioner of Police(DSP) (HQ) and Special Brach Harjit Singh said the accused has been identified as Sahib Singh son of Ajit Singh a resident of Thabalke Road Jandiala village under Jamsher Sadar police station.
Baljindar Kaur wife of Sarabjit Singh a resident of Sagar Pur village has complained to Jalandhar (rural) senior superintendent of police (SSP) that she paid Rs1.74 lakh to the accused for facilitating her son’s migration abroad. However, he was neither sent abroad nor returned the money.
DSP said a case under Sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating)and 120-B (criminal conspiracy of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Profession Regulation Act 2014 was against the accused after an inquiry.
