The total purchase of wheat grain by the state government agencies from farmers on Wednesday was 4 lakh 90247 quintals which is less than the fixed target of 4 lakhs 594941 quintals in grain markets under the jurisdiction of the Shahkot market committee.
Shahkot committee secretary Tejinder Kumar said this is due to the low yield of wheat crop adding bad weather hit the crop at the ripening stage which has resulted in low yield per acre. He said that the government agencies may purchase a few more quintals. He said that 3lakhs 42628 quintals of wheat have been lifted from grain markets and 1 lakh,47619 quintals of wheat is uplifted and farmers have been paid up to April 28.
