 To prevent road accidents, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal directed officials of the Public Works Department and National Highway Authority to immediately close unauthorized cuts on highways and roads.

Presiding over the Road Safety Committee meeting at the District Administrative Complex here, along with Secretary RTA Balbir Raj Singh, the Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to identify and immediately close unauthorized cuts on highways and roads to reduce the risk of road accidents.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for immediate steps such as appropriate signage, speed breakers, traffic lights, and other accident prevention measures at accident-prone roads, high-risk intersections and turns, and roads with heavy traffic. He said that necessary changes, road repairs, and adherence to traffic rules can significantly reduce accidents.

Dr. Aggarwal reviewed the list of black spots presented by the Police Department and directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates, officials from the Public Works Department, and the National Highway Authority to send a detailed list of such locations by July 30, so that accident-prone sites can be identified and rectified as per prescribed road standards. He also directed the concerned officials to ensure that buses standing under the Rama Mandi bridge should halt only at bus stops. To streamline the drainage system on highways, he asked NHAI officials to expedite the cleaning and desilting of drainage points.

Emphasizing strict adherence to the Safe School Vahan Policy, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the safety of students is the top priority and that any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated. He directed the concerned officials to ensure strict compliance with all safety standards in school vehicles.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the progress of issuing challans against violators of traffic rules including overloading, over-speeding, and drunk driving, along with the progress of awareness activities in educational institutions.

Under the 'Punjab Road Cleaning Mission', Dr. Aggarwal instructed the concerned officials to immediately address the issues identified during inspections of roads adopted by various senior officials of the district.

Present in the meeting were RTO Amanpal Singh, representatives from the Police Department, Public Works Department, National Highway Authority, and members of the Road Safety
