The Nurmahal police have arrested a snatcher and booked another on the charges of
snatching a mobile phone from a slum dweller.
The Investigating Officer (IO) Daljit Singh said that the accused has been identified as Jasvir Singh alias Jassa son of Makhan Singh a resident of Kangiwal village under Sadar Jamsher police station.
Pala Ram a resident of slums near Railway Station Nurmahal complained to the police that he was returning from Talwan village on his cycle when two accused riding a motorcycle waylaid him near a religious place in Kandola Kalan village and snatched his mobile phone.
He said in his complaint that he raised an alarm and residents chased the criminals and overcrowded one of them and handed him over to the police.
Io said that a case under section 379-B (snatching) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and his accomplice identified as Balprit Singh alias Bali son of Jagtar Singh a resident of Kangni Wal village who is ng absconding, and raids are being conducted to nab him.
Incidents of snatching in rural areas have created a sense of insecurity among residents and have put a question mark on police patrolling.
