According to the chief agriculture officer Faridkot, Dr Karanjeet Singh Gill, the district has been comparatablely better than some other parts of the state.

“About 65 to 70 per cent crop falls between 0 to 25 per category of loss.About 30 to 35 per cent crop falls between 26 percent to 100 percent loss category and out of which, less that 6 per cent crop has been badly destroyed which falls under the category of complete loss,” said Dr Gill.

"Subdivision wise, there was a big loss in some villages of Jaitu while at most of the other places, the crop only fell flat, leading to some decline in the yield, but it survived.

“As per our assessment, the farmers are getting about 17 to 18 quintal per acre yield on the basis of an average, which is somewhere more or less that it. Though it is below our expectations, it's still satisfactory,” he said.

He said that the special Girdawari ordered by the chief minister has been already completed and farmers will be compensated by the government as per its scheme.

“The farmers whose crop falls between 26 to 32 percent category of loss, are to be paid Rs 2000 per acre, for the damage between 33 to 75 per cent, there is compensation of Rs 6800 per acre and for the loss of above 76 per cent, the government has recommended Rs 15000 compensation per acre,” said Dr Karanjeet Singh Gill, when asked about the scheme of the compensation for the loss of the crop.

In Faridkot, the wheat crop was grown on about 115500 hectares.
