Nurmahal residents for school building on agenda in bye poll

NURMAHAL

Residents of the town plan to make the construction of the building of a senior secondary school in their town the dominant issue in the bye-election agenda.

Pawan Kumar a businessman said the construction of the new building of the Government Senior secondary school(co-education) remains incomplete still following the non-release of funds by the government.
Bhupinder Kamar a social activist said the then   Nakodar MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala on December 14, 2016, laid the foundation for the construction of the new building.
Jaswinder Singh Lamba a journalist said new buildings became a necessity as schools faced a shortage of classrooms after the demolition of a condemned building in 2012.

Rakesh Kumar a social activist said the director general of school education (DGSE)  had released Rs1.14 crore for the construction of the building in October 2013, following directions from the Punjab State Human Rights Commission.
Residents said the public works department had completed fifty percent of the construction work and the finance department did not release the remaining grant as a result work came to stand still.
Bal Kishan Bali a social activist said that the Nakodar MLA I.K. Mann had told residents that the construction will be resumed soon as the remaining grant is being released by the government after her intervention but still, no work has started.
