NAKODAR

The Mehat Pur police have arrested a Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS)Nagar village resident on the charge of providing a pickup van to Waris Punjab De chief Amrit Pal Singh to flee.

 

The Station House Officer (SHO) Balraj Singh said that the accused has been identified as Manpreet Singh son of Davinder Singh a resident of Anokhar Wal village under Behram police station in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

SHO said Amrit Pal Singh roamed in the area with a convoy of vehicles and was himself traveling in a pickup van (Pb-10FW-6797) on March 18 which is registered in the name of Manpreet Singh in the transport department.

SHO said that pick-up van was found parked near the Government school in Salema village.

The police recovered and impounded the vehicle and found a 315-bore rifle, two belts of cartridges (57 numbers), one sword, and one walkie-talkie set from inside the vehicle.

 

SHO said a case under sections 279(rash driving on the public road and 188(disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered against Amrit Pal Singh and Manpreet Singh has been arrested in this case who was produced in a court which remanded him to two days police custody and sub-inspector Bhupinder Singh is conducting further investigations.
