The Bilga police have arrested a travel agent for duping a woman and his relative of Rs 1.40 on the pretext of sending them abroad.
Phillaur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jagdish Raj who is investigating officer (IO) in this case said that the accused has been identified as Sukhwant Singh alias Sukhi son of Bhichar Singh a resident of Kadiaya village under Mehar Ban police station in Ludhiana. Kulwant Kaur wife of Gian Chand a resident of Sangowal village had complained to Jalandhar (rural) senior superintendent of police (SSP) that she and his relative had paid Rs 1.40 lakhs to the accused for facilitating their migration abroad. However, they were neither sent abroad nor returned the money.
DSP said a case under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)and section 13 of the Travel Profession Regulation Act was registered against the accused in 2019.
