Malerkotla police seek public support to curb drug smuggling,reach out to village panchayats and people

Malerkotla police have reached out to the public by holding cluster level meetings of about 5to 6 villages urging the people to come forwards to inform police about drug smuggling so that the menace of drugs could be curbed.

The police have taken this initiative that it is a joint responsibility of the police and the public.

“We have been reaching out to the people in a unique initiative where we call the panchayats of the 5 to 6 villages at one place besides the local residents. Our chief priority is the issue of drugs. We want the people to come forwards to help us and inform the police about drug smuggling.If they wish, their identity will be kept secret and strict action would be taken against the drug peddlers or smugglers,” said Avneet Kaur Sidhu,SSP Malerkotla, addressing the gathering of the village at Sangala, under police station Amargarh under the banner of “Saanjh police meeting.”

“We want the panchayats to sign resolutions in this regard so that drugs could be eliminated from society and we are also getting good response in this regard ,” the SSP said.

“Besdies the issue of drugs, the people can come forwards with their private complaints of any kind and they will be taken up by the concerned officers,” said the SSP.
