In July 2012, the Nakodar Nagar council passed a unanimous resolution to remove encroachments on its land. It had authorized the executive officer to initiate a proceeding to vacate more than 119 acres of NC land.
Jalandhar's deputy commissioner had ordered a special demarcation of the Nakodar NC land, which has been encroached upon by private organizations and individuals.
A team of revenue and Nagar council officials constituted for land demarcation had confirmed that private organizations and individuals have encroached upon more than 12 acres of NC land. As per the report submitted by the team, 33 kanals and 7 marlas of land are encroached by the Dera Lal Badshah,16 kanals and 19 marlas and 1 kanal of the NC land have been encroached upon by two gurdwaras. The Dera Murad Shah, which is being run by a trust headed by singer Gurdas Mann has encroached upon four kanals of land. It is said that four kanals of land have been encroached upon by Valmiki Temple.
As per information 119 acres of land have been encroached upon in Nakodar. Nagar council has authorized the executive officer to initiate proceedings to vacate encroached land.
Sources said that political pressure is the reason behind the no action by NC officials in this regard.
Nakodar executive officer said that a civil writ petition by former councillor Hari Mittar Sondhi is pending in the Punjab high court in connection with encroachment by Dera Lal Badshah, which will come up for further hearing on February 3, 2023.
