Nurmahal NC fails to implement no-vendor zone policy even after nine years .

NURMAHAL

More than nine years after declaring 200 meters adjoining the Nagar Council office and old tehsil office as a no-vendor zone, the Nurmahal Nagar Council (NC) has failed to implement the town vending committee’s decision taken in its meeting held on July 17, 2015.

The NC formed TVC under The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of street vending) Act, 2014.

The committee had decided that only mobile vending will be allowed and in streets with less than 10 feet width no mobile vending will be allowed. As per the Act, the NC has to provide basic amenities along with the smart vendors’ identity cards to them.

NC had conducted a survey of street vendors in 2014 and had identified around 64 vendors. No certificates have been issued to the vendor yet. Vendors keep their vend stationery near the NC office and on the approach road to Nurmahal Sarai.

Illegal encroachments by vendors and unregulated businesses are one of the biggest challenges before the authorities.   The NC formed a TVC in July 2014, which was re-casted in 2015 to implement the National Policy on Urban Street Vendors, in 2009.
