Minister Bhagat reaffirms Government's commitment to Freedom Fighters' welfare

JALANDHAR

Punjab Horticulture, Freedom Fighter, and Defence Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat today reiterated the Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of freedom fighters and their families. Chairing a meeting with the families of freedom fighters, Mr. Bhagat assured them that all their concerns would be addressed promptly.

Highlighting the state government’s initiatives under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Mr. Bhagat announced the formation of a Welfare Board for freedom fighters and their families. The board, he said, will empower freedom fighters and their families by providing representation in this government body, enabling them to resolve their issues independently.

The Minister also emphasized the government’s plans to revise the financial aid provided as pensions to freedom fighters and their dependents. In addition, he shared that memorials dedicated to freedom fighters and military personnel are being constructed to honour their sacrifices.

Taking a personal approach, the Punjab Government has initiated a program where People's representatives will visit surviving freedom fighters who had endured the brutalities of British colonialism. These visits aim to honour their sacrifices and strengthen the bond between the state and these living legends.

Mr. Bhagat instructed officials to strictly adhere to protocols established for honouring freedom fighters and their families, reinforcing the government's commitment to their dignity and respect.

“The entire nation is indebted to these brave souls whose unparalleled sacrifices gave us freedom. While their contributions cannot be measured in monetary terms, the Punjab Government is dedicated to their welfare and care,” Mr. Bhagat stated.

During the meeting, the Minister listened to various issues raised by the families and assured their swift resolution through the concerned departments. The initiatives reflect the government’s resolve to ensure holistic support and recognition for the country’s unsung heroes.

Secretary of Defence Welfare Gagandeep Singh Brar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, and representatives of the Freedom Fighter Association were also present at the meeting.
