NAKODAR
The Nakodar Nagar Council (NC) has not only failed to make judicious use of the defense land transferred to it, but it even does also not know the present status of the land. An area of 126 Kanals and six marlas of defense land was transferred to the NC in 1981. The Nagar council had constructed quarters on the transferred land and some portion of it had been sold to the telecom department. Locals had allegedly encroached upon some portions of the transferred land.
The executive officer of the NC in a letter dated December 10, 1980, to the military estate officer Jalandhar Cantt. had said "It is confirmed that such land belonging to the defense will not be given on lease. The MC is not going to earn profit from this land" However the NC sold seven kanal and four marlas land to the telecom department in 1990. A big chunk of the land is allegedly lying unused in the shape of a pond full of dirty water on the back of the old judicial complex which is being encroached on by a Dera. Local have demanded an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in this.
